Doing painful save-and-restore bookkeeping around a separate
`magic_overruled` decoy global is just as messy as doing painful
save-and-restore logic around `p_magic` itself. only that now you need
to wrap every access to the effective value in a function call.
This replaces this with a marvellous new Clean Code technique™:
passing in the intended behavior as a function parameter to functions
where either the option or an explicit value might be used.
Problem:
The object subsystem has an intermediate representation for no real
reason. Besides the code cost, this also adds an extra (api <=> OptVal)
conversion step, which is a (small) perf cost.
Solution:
We already have `Object`, so use it instead.
- drop `OptVal`, `OptValData`, `OptValType`, and related boilerplate.
- add `kObjectTypeUnset`.
Problem: Memory leak when a spell file has an SN_SAL section before an
SN_SOFO section: set_sofo() reuses sl_sal without freeing the
salitem_T entries left by read_sal_section() (after v9.2.0846).
Solution: Factor the SAL free loop into free_sal_items() and call it
before set_sofo() reuses sl_sal.

Spell decorations from other lines aren't relevant to the current line.
Also, decor_redraw_col() can only go forward, while spell navigation
needs to go both forward and backward.

Problem: Newlines intended to write messages below the cmdline or to
mark the start of a new message on message grid are emitted
through ext_messages. This results in unnecessary newlines for
a UI that has decoupled its message area from the cmdline.
msg_col is set directly in some places which is not transmitted
to msg_show events.
Various missing message kind for list commands.
Trailing newlines on various list commands.
Solution: Only emit such newlines without ext_messages enabled.
Use msg_advance() instead of setting msg_col directly.
Assign them the "list_cmd" kind.
Ensure no trailing newline is printed.

These are not needed after #35129 but making uncrustify still play nice
with them was a bit tricky.
Unfortunately `uncrustify --update-config-with-doc` breaks strings
with backslashes. This issue has been reported upstream,
and in the meanwhile auto-update on every single run has been disabled.

Problem: Option metadata like list of valid values for an option and
option flags are not listed in the `options.lua` file and are instead
manually defined in C, which means option metadata is split between
several places.
Solution: Put metadata such as list of valid values for an option and
option flags in `options.lua`, and autogenerate the corresponding C
variables and enums.

Problem: Using xstrlcpy() when the exact length of the string to be
copied is known is not ideal because it requires adding 1 to
the length and an unnecessary strlen().
Solution: Add xmemcpyz() and use it in place of such xstrlcpy() calls.
Problem: More code can use ml_get_buf_len() instead of STRLEN().
Solution: Change more STRLEN() calls to ml_get_buf_len(). Also do not
set ml_line_textlen in ml_replace_len() if "has_props" is set,
because "len_arg" also includes the size of text properties in

Remove `export` pramgas from defs headers as it causes IWYU to believe
that the definitions from the defs headers comes from main header, which
is not what we really want.
Problem: Many places in the code use `findoption()` to access an option using its name, even if the option index is available. This is very slow because it requires looping through the options array over and over.
Solution: Use option index instead of name wherever possible. Also introduce an `OptIndex` enum which contains the index for every option as enum constants, this eliminates the need to pass static option names as strings.
Problem: Currently, `get_option_value()` returns 3 separate things: The actual value of the option, whether the option is hidden, and the option flags. This makes the function difficult to refactor, modify or otherwise reason about.
Solution: Split `get_option_value()` into 3 functions, each with a single purpose. This also affects `get_option_value_for()`.
FUNC_ATTR_* should only be used in .c files with generated headers.
Defining FUNC_ATTR_* as empty in headers causes misuses of them to be
silently ignored. Instead don't define them by default, and only define
them as empty after a .c file has included its generated header.
Enable all clang-tidy warnings by default instead of disabling them.
This ensures that we don't miss useful warnings on each clang-tidy
version upgrade. A drawback of this is that it will force us to either
fix or adjust the warnings as soon as possible.
We already have an extensive suite of static analysis tools we use,
which causes a fair bit of redundancy as we get duplicate warnings. PVS
is also prone to give false warnings which creates a lot of work to
identify and disable.
long is 32 bits on windows, while it is 64 bits on other architectures.
This makes the type suboptimal for a codebase meant to be
cross-platform. Replace it with more appropriate integer types.
