7d8653575f vim-patch:9.2.0004: Changing hidden prompt buffer cancels :startinsert/:stopinsert (#37881)
Problem: Changing hidden prompt buffer cancels :startinsert/:stopinsert
          (after 9.0.1439).
Solution: Don't change mode for a prompt buffer in an autocommand

88dc44260f fix(api): preserve WinConfig style when converting float to split #37264
Problem: When a float window with style='minimal' is converted to a
split window and then changes buffer, the minimal style options get
overridden. This happens because merge_win_config() clears the style
field, so get_winopts() doesn't know to re-apply minimal style after
restoring options from the buffer's wininfo.

Solution: Save and restore the style field when clearing the config
during float-to-split conversion.

da8de99d0b fix(window): use real last buffer of closed window
Problem: close_buffer autocmds may switch buffers at the last moment when
closing a window, causing terminal_check_size to prefer the size of a closed
window, or TabClosed to set an old <abuf>.

Solution: use the actual last buffer, similar to what TabClosed did before.

NOTE: If buffer was unloaded/deleted (not wiped), then TabClosed's <abuf> may
not use it. (w_buffer = NULL) Maybe odd, but it's how it worked before anyhow.

Relies on close_buffer reliably setting w_buffer to NULL if freed, otherwise
buf_valid is better. Only concern I see is if the window wasn't in the window
list after closing the buffer (close_buffer won't set it to NULL then), but then
win_close{_othertab} should've returned earlier.

d945a93d69 fix(autocmd): potential TabClosed UAF, always set abuf
Problem: win_free_mem can free w_buffer (via qf_free_all), which may cause a
heap use-after-free if used as TabClosed's <abuf>. I think TabClosed is also the
only event to conditionally set <abuf> not based on event type.

Solution: use the buffer saved by the bufref. Fall back to curbuf if invalid,
like WinResized/WinScrolled.

NOTE: Not always equivalent if close_buffer autocmds switch buffers at the last
moment; previously <abuf> would be set to that buffer. Fixed in next commit.

7470e63260 vim-patch:9.1.2097: TabClosedPre may be triggered twice for the same tab page
Problem: TabClosedPre may be triggered twice for the same tab page when
closing another tab page in BufWinLeave (after 9.1.1211).
Solution: Store whether TabClosedPre was triggered in tabpage_T

Also fix the inconsistency that :tabclose! triggers TabClosedPre after
a failed :tabclose, but :close! doesn't even if there is only one window

40fb2818b6 vim-patch:9.1.2085: Use-after-free in winframe_remove()
Problem:  Use-after-free in winframe_remove() (henices)
Solution: Set window_layout_locked() inside winframe_remove()
and check that writing diff files is disallowed when the
          window layout is locked.

It can happen with a custom diff expression when removing a window:

 1. Buffer was removed, so win_frame_remove() is called to remove the
    window.
 2. win_frame_remove() → frame_new_height() → scroll_to_fraction()
→ diff_check_fill() (checks for filler lines)
 3. diff_check_fill() ends up causing a diff_try_update, and because we
are not using internal diff, it has to first write the file to a
    buffer using buf_write()
 4. buf_write() is called for a buffer that is not contained within a
window, so it first calls aucmd_prepbuf() to create a new temporary
window before writing the buffer and then later calls
aucmd_restbuf(), which restores the previous window layout, calling
winframe_remove() again, which will free the window/frame structure,
eventually freeing stuff that will still be accessed at step 2.

f89558848b vim-patch:9.1.2001: cursor may end up in wrong window after :botright copen (#37056)
Problem: After :botright copen and closing the quikfix window, the

created on the left, and frame_insert() updates the parent's

7923e847ca vim-patch:9.1.1831: stray vseps in right-most 'winfixwidth' window
Problem: vertical separator of 'winfixwidth' windows may remain if they

Solution: Don't implicitly rely on frame_new_width to fix vseps, as the

their width; do it explicitly in winframe_remove (Sean Dewar).

Note that I prefer win_new_width here over setting w_width directly, which
would've previously been done by win_split_ins after frame_add_vsep, as this
wasn't true for winframe_remove.

Though the equivalent issue of bottom 'winfixheight' windows leaving stray
statuslines with &ls=0 doesn't seem to exist, test it anyway.

8ae9a44d38 feat(ui): support grid=0 in nvim_input_mouse #32535
Problem:
Multigrid UIs have to find out which window to send the input by using
the Nvim focus rules, which are not fully documented.

Furthermore,`getmousepos()` has several problems when multigrid is
enabled, with the main one being that screenrow and screencol are window
relative instead of screen relative, due to the fact that the UI don't
send any absolute coordinates.

Solution:
Allow passing 0 as grid to `nvim_input_mouse`, with absolute
coordinates, which lets nvim determine the actual window to send the
mouse input to. This works as long as nvim is in charge of the window
positioning. If the UI repositions or resizes the windows, it can still
pass the grid it determines like before.

50ceac4054 vim-patch:9.1.1625: Autocompletion slow with include- and tag-completion (#35318)
Problem: Autocompletion slow with include- and tag-completion
Solution: Refactor ins_compl_interrupted() to also check for timeout,

Running `vim *` in `vim/src` was slower than expected when

sources were not subject to the timeout check, causing unnecessary
delays.

So apply the timeout check to these sources as well, improving

0bef1c88f3 fix(api): do not allow opening float to closing buffer
Problem: no check for nvim_open_win opening a new floating window into a closing
buffer, which can lead to crashes.

Solution: call check_split_disallowed; opening a new float semantically splits
from a window, so the same problems as regular splits apply. Also restore the
error if switch_win_noblock in win_set_buf fails (may not be possible to hit
this, but win_set_buf can silently succeed there since #31595).

As the lock check applies to curbuf (not the target buffer) this may feel a bit
restrictive, though this isn't different to how things like ":split" or
nvim_open_win with "split = true" works when targeting a different buffer. Only
checking the target buffer's lock will cause issues if win_set_buf doesn't end
up in the target buffer for whatever reason.

Maybe we could consider checking the lock of the buffer after win_set_buf and
close the window if it's locked (maybe a bit fiddly, especially as closing a
window can fail...), or make the open + switch operation more atomic, like how
Vim does for its popup windows..?

It also used to be the case that win_set_buf would set an error if autocommands
sent us to a different buffer than what was requested, but #31595 appears to
have also changed that... I haven't touched that here.

b_nwindows may remain out-of-sync.

Solution: change the return value of close_buffer to accurately depict whether
it decremented b_nwindows. Check it in win_close_othertab to avoid a crash.

Similar issues may exist in other places that call close_buffer, but I've not
addressed those here (not to mention only one other place even checks its return
value...)

05a83265f9 fix(autocmd): fire TabClosed after freeing tab page
Problem: TabClosed is fired after close_buffer is called (after b_nwindows is
decremented) and after the tab page is removed from the list, but before it's
freed. This causes inconsistencies such as the removed tabpage having a valid
handle and functions like nvim_tabpage_get_number returning nonsense.

Solution: fire it after free_tabpage. Try to maintain the Nvim-specific
behaviour of setting `<amatch>` to the old tab page number, and the
(undocumented) behaviour of setting `<abuf>` to the buffer it was showing
(close_buffer sets w_buffer to NULL if it was freed, so it should be OK pass it
to apply_autocmds_group, similar to before).

3a36df9b13 fix(window): handle closing the only non-float in other tabpage
Problem: No check for closing the only non-floating window in a non-current
tabpage that contains floats. This can lead to a tabpage that contains only
floats, causing crashes.

Solution: Copy the relevant check from win_close to win_close_othertab. Fix some
uncovered issues.

7f5b5d34cf fix(window): don't store invalid height in window config (#34885)
Problem: When 'winminheight' is zero and the window height is set to
zero, the actual height is clamped whereas the stored config
value is not. Reciprocal window configuration through
nvim_win_get_config() then results in an error.
Solution: Also clamp the stored dimensions in the window config.

5871d26779 fix(autocmd): 'cmdheight' OptionSet with valid window grids (#34619)
Problem: OptionSet autocmd emitted with invalid grids after entering
          tabpage with different 'cmdheight'.
Solution: First call `tabpage_check_windows()` before changing 'cmdheight'.
Add a test that exercises the `vim._extui` cmdline.

0d658660c2 fix(window): don't enter unfocusable or hidden prevwin (#34486)
Problem: When closing a floating window, the next window to be entered
          may be unfocusable or hidden.
Solution: Don't enter prevwin when it is unfocusable or hidden. Enter
firstwin instead (like for when prevwin is no longer valid).
