Problem:
When a window is resized it takes space from the window right/below first,
and only falls back to the window left/above when there is no more room.
Sometimes a user wants the space to come from a specific direction.
Solution:
Add nvim_win_resize(win, width, height, {anchor}) which resizes a window
with a choosable anchor edge, letting a window grow leftwards or upwards
by taking space from the window to the left or above first. The default
anchor reproduces nvim_win_set_width()/nvim_win_set_height().
Problem: Attach-time terminal probes cannot distinguish responses from
different attached UIs.
Solution: Identify the UI by RPC channel id in `TermResponse` and make
`vim.tty.request()` filter responses by channel.
Problem: Extmark has support for horizontal scrolling and truncating, but not wrapping.
Solution: Extend virt_lines_overflow flags to support "wrap" and "auto" based on proposed changes in #18282.
Problem:
The comma form of 'winborder' is split with copy_option_part(),
whose skip_to_option_part() eats spaces after a comma, and empty
fields are rejected.
Solution:
Split the comma form literally on ',', keeping empty fields and
single-space fields.
Problem: nvim_win_set_config() does not error on flags not allowed for
non-floating windows.
`hide` should not be allowed for non-floating windows.
Solution: Check that a window is a split when reconfiguring.
Error when trying to hide a split window.
Problem:
Literal tab (or other control char) in a float title/footer is
not made printable, so it renders incorrectly instead of as "^I".
Solution:
Normalize title/footer text for display like 'statusline'
tab to "^I", parameterize parse_virt_text() with untab
and recompute the width.
text-object-define is a pattern I found in tpope's plugins (e.g.
https://github.com/tpope/vim-jdaddy) which shows an elegant way to
define a text-object. (Any mistakes in the example are my fault.)
Problem: `nvim_exec_autocmds({ buf = ... })` matches the target buffer, but callbacks and modelines run with the caller buffer current rather than the target buffer.
Solution: Execute the buffered path in prepared target-buffer context and restore the caller afterward.
Problem:
`aucmd_restbuf` must be guarded in case `aucmd_prepbuf` wasn't called.
Solution:
Update `aucmd_restbuf` to be a no-op if `aucmd_prepbuf` wasn't called.
This requires `aco` to be zero-initialized.
Problem:
Visual selection could end up in the wrong place after
nvim_buf_set_text or nvim_buf_set_lines. In some delete cases,
Visual.lnum was already clamped before the line shift happened, so the
adjustment got skipped.
Solution:
Split fix_cursor_cols into reusable fix_pos_col logic and reuse it
for Visual updates. Also adjust Visual.lnum before changed_lines so
the shift uses the original position before final clamping.
Problem: User commands cannot handle single args with spaces
Solution: Add the -nargs=_ attribute (Maxim Kim)
-nargs=_ allow user commands to have a single argument with spaces.
For example given the following Test command and TestComplete function:

Problem:

to `nvim_get_option_value`, but not to:

Solution:
- Update `options.lua` to model tab-local options. Introduce `kOptScopeTab`.
- Handle tab scope in the options layer so it works for all options APIs.

Problem:
API clients cannot query the tab-local value of 'cmdheight'.
Solution:
Allow nvim_get_option_value() to accept { tab = <tab-ID> } for 'cmdheight'.
Problem: vim.ui_attach() callback for nvim_echo() call that spoofs an
internal message kind is executed in fast context.
Solution: Set msg_show callback |api-fast| context dynamically at
external message callsites, and for internal list_cmd",
"progress" and "shell*" messages.
Problem: 'title' is updated when changing the name of a non-current
buffer with nvim_buf_set_name().
Solution: Set RedrawingDisabled when renaming the buffer.
This feature might be a little silly and niche, but it is very useful
for _my_ workflow (and open source is about mee)
An issue which is never present on high quality RELEASE builds, but
might occur on Debug builds is that the Nvim server crashes
on some error in your unfinished PR code. If you compile your debug
builds with sanitizers enabled, as you should, the ASAN/UBSAN runtime
will print some useful info about your mistake to stderr or a log file,
such as a stack trace. This can be used to jump to the error in the
code.
This allows the nvim server to install a signal hander in the ui client,
which can load this log file in a good safe version of nvim and parse it
using 'errorformat'
This is inspired by the "press ENTER" free workflow of ui2 and applies
it beyond the lifetime cycle of the nvim instance.

Problem:
Linter missed backtick and double-quote keynames in the quasi-keyset of
the `nvim_create_user_command` docstring.
Solution:
Update the linter to check backtick-surrounded and quote-surrounded key
names.
Problem: Internal progress messages use the "nvim" source (since
ff68fd6b), plugins shouldn't be allowed to set the progress
message source to "nvim". The message ID used for internal
progress messages is not identifiable as such.
Solution: Disallow setting opts->source to "nvim" with nvim_echo().
Refactor msg_progress() and callees to bypass nvim_echo().
Prepend message id for internal progress messages with "nvim.".
Problem:
Can't get a command's description from nvim_get_commands when
cmd is string.
Solution:
Returns "desc" field in nvim_get_commands.
`definition` is now empty when cmd is function type.
Problem:
Cannot remove a `@conceal` highlight when defined in highlights.scm.
Solution:
Support a `@noconceal` highlight that works similarly to `@nospell` where it
overrides the conceal set on the range to remove it. Additionally, can
set the conceal metadata field to false for the same behavior.
Problem:
Invalid `nvim_create_user_command` calls can leak the
`preview` callback reference after Neovim has taken ownership of it.

Solution:
Clear `preview_luaref` in `err:`.
Problem: fg_indexed/bg_indexed were dropped from nvim_get_hl output due
to a wrong short_keys guard. HL_FG_INDEXED also wasn't cleared in
hl_blend_attrs, and HLATTRS_DICT_SIZE was too small.
Solution: Remove the short_keys guard, clear HL_FG_INDEXED in
hl_blend_attrs, bump HLATTRS_DICT_SIZE to 24, and clarify docs that
these flags mean rgb is an approximation of the cterm palette index.
Problem: too many strlen() calls when adding strings to dicts
Solution: Refactor code to use string_T, use dict_add_string_len()
instead of dict_add_string() (John Marriott)
Additionally:
- In textprop.c, in function prop_fill_dict() use a string_T to store
local variable text_align.
- In popupwin.c, use a string_T to store struct member pp_name in struct
poppos_entry_T.
- In mark.c, refactor function add_mark() to pass in the length of
argument mname.
- In insexpand.c:
->Use a string_T to store the elements of static array
ctrl_x_mode_names.
->Refactor function trigger_complete_done_event():
->->change type of argument char_u *word to string_T *word.

they are assigned so they are not remeasured on each call to
dict_add_string() in the subsequent for loop.
- In channel.c, in function channel_part_info() drop local variable status
and use s instead. Make s a string_T.

* fix(api): allow silencing "Too many highlight groups" error
Problem: Using Lua's `vim.api.nvim_set_hl(0, 'New', {...})` can fail if
there are too many existing highlight groups. However, this error can
not be silenced with `pcall`.
Solution: Make it possible to silence in `nvim_set_hl` and
`nvim_get_hl_id_by_name`.
* fix(lsp): limit number of groups created by `document_color()`
Problem: A file can contain many string colors that would be highlighted
by an LSP server. If this number crosses 19999 (maximum number of
allowed highlight groups), there are general issues with creating
other highlight groups, which can break functionality outside of
`vim.lsp.document_color`.
Solution: Limit number of highlight groups that are created by
`vim.lsp.document_color` to 10000 (half of allowed maximum).
This is not a 100% solution (since there can exist more than 10000
other highlight groups), but explicitly checking number of groups is
slow and 10000 should (hopefully) be enough for most use cases.
Problem:
Naming conventions are not automatically checked.
Solution:
Add a check to the doc generator. Eventually we should extract this
somehow, but that will require refactoring the doc generator...
Note: this also checks non-public functions, basically anything that
passes through `gen_eval_files.lua` and `gen_vimdoc.lua`. And that's
a good thing.

This commit renames positional parameters. This is only "cosmetic", but

often copy existing code despite the guidelines in `:help dev-naming`.
In 3a4a66017b, 4d3a67cd62, df8d98173c we renamed "buffer" to "buf"
in dict parameters and return-values.
This commit renames positional parameters. This is only "cosmetic", but
is intended to make it extra clear which name is preferred, since people
often copy existing code despite the guidelines in `:help dev-naming`.
Problem: The cursor shape is changed to indicate when it is behind an
unfocused floating window (since a2b92a5e). This behavior
cannot be controlled by a floating window that doesn't want
to dim the cursor.
Solution: Assign a zindex-offset of 50 to the zindex of the current
window. To not dim the cursor when creating a floating window
on top of the current window one can assign the zindex
accordingly.
Problem:
clang 21 promoted alpha.security.ArrayBoundV2 to security.ArrayBound
(stable). This new check reports false-positive "out of bound access"
errors in drawline.c and vimscript.c, where the analyzer constructs
impossible paths (e.g. concealed line with draw_text=false yet ptr
advanced past the NUL terminator, or root AST node with a "next"
sibling).
Per-line NOLINT suppression doesn't work because the analyzer finds
multiple paths to the same false positive.
Solution:
Disable clang-analyzer-security.ArrayBound globally in the
clang-analyzer cmake target until the check matures.
