11soda11 b258382176 fix(completion): complete drive-letter filepath on Windows #36353
Problem:
On MSWIN, file completion (CTRL-X CTRL-F) only works for the current
drive (so not for actual absolute paths), since drive letters are never
included in the completion pattern.

e.g. when completing "F:\Hello" Nvim currently completes "\Hello"
which is relative to the current drive/volume.

vim solves this by adding ':' to the default 'isfname' value on mswin,
but that causes issues as ':' is not a valid windows path char anywhere
_except_ after the drive letter.

Solution:
detect drive letters in front of the path when creating the completion
pattern.

zeertzjqandGirish Palya 8151fc59cf vim-patch:9.1.1820: completion: some issues with 'acl' (#36007)
Problem: completion: some issues with 'acl' when "preinsert" and
          "longest" is in 'completeopt' (musonius, after v9.1.1638)
Solution: Fix various issues (see details below) (Girish Palya)

This commit addresses multiple issues in the 'autocompletedelay' behavior with
"preinsert" and "longest":

- Prevents spurious characters from being inserted.
- Ensures the completion menu is not shown until `autocompletedelay` has
  expired.
- Shows the "preinsert" effect immediately.
- Keeps the "preinsert" effect visible even when a character is deleted.

Problem: completion: autocompletion can be improved
Solution: Add support for "longest" and "preinsert" in 'autocomplete';
          add preinserted() (Girish Palya)

* Add support for "longest" in 'completeopt' when 'autocomplete'

  when 'autocomplete' is enabled.)
* Add support for "preinsert" when 'autocomplete' is enabled. Ensure
  "preinsert" works the same with and without 'autocomplete'
* introduce the preinserted() Vim script function, useful for defining
  custom key mappings.

79bfeecdb4 feat(editor)!: insert-mode ctrl-r should work like paste #35477
Problem:
insert-mode ctrl-r input is treated like raw user input, which is almost
never useful. This means any newlines in the input are affected by
autoindent, etc., which is:
- slow
- usually breaks the formatting of the input

Solution:
- ctrl-r should be treated like a paste, not user-input.
- does not affect `<c-r>=`, so `<c-r>=@x` can still be used to get the
  old behavior.

Problem: completion: not possible to delay the autcompletion
Solution: add the 'autocompletedelay' option value (Girish Palya).

This patch introduces a new global option 'autocompletedelay'/'acl' that
specifies the delay, in milliseconds, before the autocomplete menu
appears after typing.

When set to a non-zero value, Vim waits for the specified time before
showing the completion popup, allowing users to reduce distraction from
rapid suggestion pop-ups or to fine-tune the responsiveness of
completion.

The default value is 0, which preserves the current immediate-popup
behavior.

zeertzjqandGirish Palya 9d1333a385 vim-patch:9.1.1563: completion: ruler may disappear (#34977)
Problem: The ruler disappears after typing the second character during
          insert mode completion, even when completion messages are

Solution: Ensure the ruler is restored during screen redraw when popup

zeertzjqandGirish Palya f487ae90cf vim-patch:9.1.1539: completion: messages don't respect 'shm' setting (#34923)
Problem: completion: messages don't respect 'shm' setting
Solution: Turn off completion messages when 'shortmess' includes "c"
          (Girish Palya).

`:set shortmess+=c` is intended to reduce noise during completion by
suppressing messages.
Previously, some completion messages still appeared regardless of this setting.

This change ensures that **all** completion-related messages are suppressed
when `'c'` is present in `'shortmess'`.

Not entirely sure if the original behavior was intentional. If there's a
reason certain messages were always shown, feel free to close this without
merging.

Gregory Anders 35e5307af2 feat(terminal)!: include cursor position in TermRequest event data (#31609)
When a plugin registers a TermRequest handler there is currently no way
for the handler to know where the terminal's cursor position was when
the sequence was received. This is often useful information, e.g. for
OSC 133 sequences which are used to annotate shell prompts.

Modify the event data for the TermRequest autocommand to be a table
instead of just a string. The "sequence" field of the table contains the
sequence string and the "cursor" field contains the cursor
position when the sequence was received.

To maintain consistency between TermRequest and TermResponse (and to
future proof the latter), TermResponse's event data is also updated to
be a table with a "sequence" field.

BREAKING CHANGE: event data for TermRequest and TermResponse is now a
table

Justin M. Keyes be1fbe38b3 feat(lua): vim.text.indent()
Problem:
Indenting text is a common task in plugins/scripts for
presentation/formatting, yet vim has no way of doing it (especially
"dedent", and especially non-buffer text).

Solution:
Introduce `vim.text.indent()`. It sets the *exact* indentation because
that's a more difficult (and thus more useful) task than merely
"increasing the current indent" (which is somewhat easy with a `gsub()`
one-liner).

neeshy 59a171fd99 fix(defaults): improve visual search mappings #32378
Problem: The behavior of the visual search mappings aren't consistent
with their normal mode counterparts.
  - The count isn't considered
  - Searching with an empty selection will match every character in the

  - Searching backwards only jumps back when the cursor is positioned at

Solution:

  - Error out and exit visual mode when the selection is empty
  - Detect when the cursor is not at the start of the selection, and
    adjust the count accordingly

Marcus Caisey c644228e1d fix(defaults): omit empty line from unimpaired mapping messages (#31347)
Problem:
The default unimpaired mappings display an empty line after the
command's output. This results (with default configuration) in the
`Press ENTER or type command to continue` prompt to be displayed, like
so:
```
(2 of 16): item2
Press ENTER or type command to continue
```

Solution:
The cause is that we're checking the second return value from
`pcall(vim.api.nvim_cmd, opts, {})` to determine whether the call was
successful. `nvim_cmd` returns an empty string on success, so this value
is an empty string in the successful path which we then display.

The fix is simple: check the first return value instead which is the
"status code" of the call.

bfredl e61228a214 fix(tests): needing two calls to setup a screen is cringe
Before calling "attach" a screen object is just a dummy container for
(row, col) values whose purpose is to be sent as part of the "attach"
function call anyway.

Just create the screen in an attached state directly. Keep the complete
(row, col, options) config together. It is still completely valid to
later detach and re-attach as needed, including to another session.

bfredl 23290e7676 feat(editor): handle new multibyte sequences in normal mode replacement
while the implementation is not tied to screen chars, it is a reasonable
expectation to support the same size. If nvim is able to display a
multibyte character, it will accept the same character as input,
including in normal mode commands like r{char}
