Problem: Grid size check didn't account for border_width, causing
row index out of bounds when drawing bordered popup menu.
Solution: Check grid.rows against pum_height + border_width.
Problem: Resize events during startup may clear an active external
cmdline, which is then not redrawn.
UI2 VimResized autocommand does not work.
UI2 message appearance may be altered by inherited window
options. The message separator uses the wrong fillchar.
Solution: Unset cmdline_was_last_redrawn when clearing the screen, such
that cmdline_show is re-emitted.
Ensure set_pos function is called without arguments.
Ensure such options are unset. Use 'fillchars'->msgsep.
Problem: regression when displaying localized percentage position
(after v9.1.1291)
Solution: calculate percentage first (Emir SARI)
Cleanups made in ec032de broke the Turkish percent display, failing to
prepend it properly in cases between 0 and 10. In Turkish, the percent
sign is prepended to the number, so it was displaying it as `% 5`
(should have been `%5`), while displaying numbers bigger than 9 properly.
related: vim/vim#175978fe9e55a7d
The test was unskipped in Vim in patch 9.1.1479 which added Turkish
translation for "%d%%". However, Nvim has had Turkish translation for
"%d%%" since 2023, so don't skip the test.

Problem: Setting a filetype before configuring default options for ui2
buffers (pager, cmd, ...) prevents users from setting their own options.
Solution: Call nvim_set_option_value after defaults are set.
Closes#36314

Problem: When pumborder is set, the scrollbar still occupies
a column on the screen, wasting a 1 column of space.
Solution: Render the scrollbar on the right/left (rl mode) side
of the border when pumborder is set.
Problem:
Border width calculations were scattered with repeated
`*p_pumborder != NUL ? 2 : 0` patterns. The "none" value was not
consistently checked, causing borders to appear when pumborder="none".
When "shadow" the info floating window have an extra cell of spacing.
Solution:
Add `pum_border_width()` helper that returns 0 when pumborder is unset
or "none" (opt_winborder_values[7]), returns 1 when pumborder is shadow,
otherwise return 2.
Problem: if pumblend >= 50, non-whitespace menu character gets italic,
bold, underline (or similar) attribute from the cell underneath, which
is not really useful and can't be "blended".
Solution: drop highlight combination for that special case (@zeertzjq
on #36133).

Problem:
1. Setting `pumborder=+,+,+,+,+,+,+,+` failed to render the custom
border characters correctly. The issue occurred in `parse_winborder()`
where it incorrectly used `p_winborder` instead of the `border_opt`
parameter when the option value didn't contain commas.
2. In `pum_redraw()`, calling `parse_border_style()` directly with the
option string failed to parse comma-separated border characters.
3. Missing documentation for PmenuShadow and PmenuShadowThrough
highlight groups used by the shadow border style.
4. Coverity reports CID 631420: passing WinConfig (480 bytes) by value
in `grid_draw_border()`.
5. crash when using `shadow` value on pumborder.
Solution:
1. Fix `parse_winborder()` to use `border_opt` parameter consistently,
ensuring the correct option value is parsed regardless of which
option (winborder/pumborder) is being set.
2. Update `pum_redraw()` to call `parse_winborder()` instead of
`parse_border_style()`, properly handling both predefined styles
and custom comma-separated border characters.
3. Add documentation for PmenuShadow (blended shadow areas) and
PmenuShadowThrough (see-through corners) highlight groups.
4. Change `grid_draw_border()` to accept WinConfig by pointer.
5. When the "shadow" style is used, no additional row and column offset
is applied, and the border width is reduced.
Problem: when splitkeep=screen, after enlarge float window with
nvim_win_set_height, lines("w$") return stale value
Solution: update in win_set_inner_size
Problem: :fclose may crash Nvim if autocommands close floats prematurely.
Alternatively, :fclose may call win_close for windows not in curtab if
autocommands change curtab or move windows between tab pages via
nvim_win_set_config (may not crash, but is wrong).
Solution: check win_valid before calling win_close.
Problem:
Popup menu cannot have a border.
Solution:
Support 'pumborder' option.
Generalize `win_redr_border` to `grid_redr_border`,
which redraws border for window grid and pum grid.
Problem: popup: there are some position logic bugs
Solution: Refactor position logic and fix a few bugs
(Girish Palya).
This change does the following:
- Simplified and rewrote horizontal positioning logic (was overly
complex).
- Split horizontal and vertical positioning into separate functions.
- Fixed missing truncation marker (e.g. `>`) when items were truncated
and `pummaxwidth` was not set.
- Fixed occasional extra space being added to menu items.
- Update tests

Problem: 'cursorlineopt' "screenline" isn't redrawn when moving cursor
and then using line("w0") and :retab that does nothing.

(zeertzjq).

Remove WM_LIST, which was previously added in #7110, but now statusline
and messages no longer interfere with each other thanks to the message
grid, etc., and terminal refreshing no longer calls update_screen()
directly since #9883.
Tests from #7110 and #10107 still pass.
Problem: Wrong display with 'smoothscroll' and long wrapped virtual
text at EOL.

(zeertzjq).

The vim._extui.messages module uses multiple timers that last 2 or 4
seconds. If these timers aren't finished when a test ends, there will
be a 2-second delay on exit with ASAN or TSAN.
This fixes the following warning in tests with ASAN or TSAN:
-------- Running tests from test/functional/lua/watch_spec.lua
RUN T4253 vim._watch watch() ignores nonexistent paths: 29.00 ms OK
nvim took 2006 milliseconds to exit after last test
This indicates a likely problem with the test even if it passed!
Problem:
Multigrid UIs have to find out which window to send the input by using
the Nvim focus rules, which are not fully documented.
Furthermore,`getmousepos()` has several problems when multigrid is
enabled, with the main one being that screenrow and screencol are window
relative instead of screen relative, due to the fact that the UI don't
send any absolute coordinates.
Solution:
Allow passing 0 as grid to `nvim_input_mouse`, with absolute
coordinates, which lets nvim determine the actual window to send the
mouse input to. This works as long as nvim is in charge of the window
positioning. If the UI repositions or resizes the windows, it can still
pass the grid it determines like before.
Problem: A 'rulerformat' not part of the statusline is not emitted through
msg_ruler events.
Solution: Build the message chunks to emit as a msg_ruler event.
Problem: defaults: 'diffopt' option value can be improved
Solution: Update diffopt defaults to include "indent-heuristic" and
"inline:char" (Yee Cheng Chin)
The default diff options have not been updated much despite new
functionality having been added to Vim.
- indent-heurstic: This has been enabled by default in Git since
33de716387 in 2017. Given that Vim uses xdiff from Git, it makes sense
to track the default configuration from Git.
- inline:char: This turns on character-wise inline highlighting which is
generally much better than the default inline:simple. It has been
implemented since vim/vim#16881 and we have not seen reports of any issues
with it, and it has received good feedbacks.

- Fixed another regression where the first pasted text did not appear on
the command-line after starting Vim.

Problem:
Adding multigrid tests to `mouse_spec` requires all tests to test both
the multigrid and non-multigrid screen state, which adds a lot of extra
code.
Solution:
Instead of testing the full screen state, only test substrings of it.
- Problem: It's not clear for new plugin developers that `:help` uses
a help-tags file for searching the docs, generated by `:helptags`.
- Solution: Hint to the |:helptags| docs for regenerating the tags
file for their freshly written documentation.

Problem:
Currently it's only possible to test a single string match in the
screen, which makes it hard match multiple strings in the screen to
avoid having to compare the whole screen state.
It's also not possible to test if a string match is not found in the screen.
Solution:
Support an array of `any` matches and also support `none`, which does a
negative comparision.
Problem: a horizontal separator may be added to a window that doesn't need one
if there is no room when moving a different window.
Solution: only restore a hsep in winframe_restore when the global statusline is
enabled.
Problem:
The default progress message doesn't account for
message-status. Also, the title and percent sections don't get written
to history. And progress percent is hard to find with variable length messages.
Solution:
Apply highlighting on Title based on status. And sync the formated msg
in history too. Also updates the default progress message format to
{title}: {percent}% msg
Problem:
`msg_show` has "progress" info (title, status, percent) which is not presented
by default.
Solution:
Format TUI messages as `{title}: {msg}...{percent}%`. This also gets sent to UI.
- With specific formatting sent to UI we can remove the `progress` item from
`msg_show` event. It can be added if needed in the future. Also, having
a default presentation makes the feature more useful.
- For `vim._extui` we just need to implement the replace-msg-with-same-id
behavior.
- If any UI/plugin wants to do anything fancier, they can handle the `Progress`
event.
